At Leathwaite, we recently had the privilege of hosting a roundtable breakfast for FTSE 100 chief audit officers, bringing together industry leaders for a dynamic and insightful discussion.

The event fostered a productive exchange of ideas, covering a diverse range of topics crucial to the evolving landscape of internal audit, corporate governance, and the integration of new technologies like artificial intelligence (AI). We also delved into key areas shaping the future of audit, governance, and the role of Chief Data Officers (CDOs).

Below are some of the highlights and takeaways from the discussion.

AI and audit

AI’s growing influence in audit was a major focus, with discussions around how AI tools and bots are being used and tested to enhance audit efficiency and data quality. Attendees emphasised the need for careful implementation to ensure accuracy and mitigate risks.

Governance updates and CDO’s role

The latest changes to the Corporate Governance Code were explored, highlighting the importance of aligning audit strategies with new regulations. Additionally, the increasing collaboration between CDOs and internal auditors was discussed, particularly in leveraging data to enhance audit performance.

Sustainability and succession planning

Sustainability, both in environmental terms and business practices, emerged as a priority, alongside the importance of strong relationships with Audit Committee chairs for successful succession planning.

We thank all attendees for contributing to such an engaging and insightful discussion. Stay tuned for more events at Leathwaite.
