Rosie’s Sabbatical Dairies, Week 1:
After just over 6 years of working at Leathwaite I am taking a month off, making use of one of the best perks offered by the company – the sabbatical! Although this was slightly delayed by Covid, I am now fully making the most of it.
I have travelled to South Africa and will spend 3 weeks here before visiting my parents and friends back in the UK for the final week.
The trip started with one night in Johannesburg, where we recovered from a pretty long flight by going to an excellent restaurant recommended by a colleague at Leathwaite; thank you Nicola!
The next morning we headed off for a safari in Sabi Sands. It truly was an experience of a lifetime. We stayed at a beautiful lodge in the middle of the bush and spent every day on game drives, seeing beautiful animals in the wild. It was incredible having the time away from work to really switch off and be re-energised in this setting. The only low point being the 5am game drive wake up call after too many glasses of South African red wine the night before. Worse than a Friday in the office after a Leathwaite Party!
After 5 days on Safari, we have travelled to Cape Town and will continue the adventure here. Updates to follow!
Highlight: seeing all of the Big 5 up close and personal, spending time with like minded fellow travellers and the massage at the spa in the lodge!

Sabbatical Diaries, week 2: Cape Town!
Rosie is still in South Africa and this week travels to Cape Town. Exploring the city and hiking Table Mountain. Moving on to the seaside suburb, Camps Bay. This was followed by a well-deserved trip to Franschhoek in the heart of the beautiful wine country.
