Key Moves

Continental Europe

  • Jasmin Djalali has been appointed Head of Legal and Compliance at BlackRock based in Zurich. She had previously been Head of Legal at MAN Investments. With this hire BlackRock expands its executive board in Switzerland.
  • Hans-Walter Peters has been appointed as the new President of the German banking association BdB, he succeeds Juergen Fitchen.
  • Guido Ruoss has been promoted by Julius Baer to Head of Human Resources succeeding Stephan Hux. Hux has moved to focus on the recruitment of relationship managers globally for Julius Baer. Ruoss had previously been Head of Business and Products Management.
  • Matthias Bünte has been hired by EY as a Partner covering the Transaction Advisory Services. He had previously worked at Celgene.
  • Daniel Wüst has joined EY as Managing Director leading its Assurance business covering the DACH region. He had previously been Head of Assurance Switzerland, which is now being led by Alessandro Miolo.
  • Achmin Bauer has been promoted to Insurance Lead Switzerland at EY and was Head of Performance Improvement covering Financial Services, which Adrian Widmer has now taken over, as mentioned in our previous update.
  • Marc Ritzl has been announced Head of HR Switzerland of Banque Internationale à Luxembourg. Ritzl has joined from Swiss Re where he was Head of HR Operations that is now being led by Stephan Storchenegger.
  • Martin Jufer has been appointed Regional Head of Continental Europe at GAM. He had been COO of GAM’s operating business. GAM is transferring most of its ExCo-Members from Zurich to London, giving us some indication as to where one of the leading Swiss asset manager sees its future.
  • Pierre-Olivier Bouée has been announced Chief of Staff at Credit Suisse. He previously worked for Prudential as Group Chief Risk Officer in London.
  • Bruce Hodges had been announced as the new Head of IT Systems at Generali. He will be reporting into the Group COO Carsten Schildknecht.
  • Caroline Herkstroeter has been appointed General Counsel of DekaBank following Elisabeth Roegele who joined Bafin. Caroline will report to Manuela Better who becomes an ExCo member overseeing risk, legal and compliance. Deka is aiming to implement the 30% women on boards rule at the ExCo and ExCo minus one level as well.
  • Susanne Brandenberger has been appointed Head of Risk at EFG International. She had been Head of Risk Control at Vontobel before the appointment.
  • Martin Geissmann has been announced as the new Head of Recruitment at Credit Suisse. He previously had a broad role at Swiss Re; Global HR Partner for Group Internal Audit, Global Partnerships, the CEO and Chairman’s office.
  • Jürgen Schlangenotto has been announced as the Head of Investment Banking covering Germany at Credit Suisse, based in Frankfurt. He joined from BNP Paribas.
  • Peter Voelker-Albert has been appointed Head of Corporate Banking for Germany, Austria and Switzerland at Banco Santander. This is a newly created role by the bank. Peter had previously worked for BNP Paribas as Co-Head Investment Banking Germany. Therefore, BNP Paribas loses another senior manager in Germany to a competitor.
  • Immy Pandor has been announced Head of Insurance Switzerland at PwC he succeeds Peter Lüssi who is stepping down.
  • Ursula Egli has been appointed COO Europe at Julius Bear. She previously worked for Leumi Private Bank overseeing CFO and CRO functions.
  • Christoph Ebert has been appointed as the new General Counsel Germany at Zurich Insurance, succeeding Helmut Hoffman. Ebert has joined from one of its main competitors, Generali.
  • Kristof Terryn has been appointed CEO of General Insurance at Zurich Insurance, he had previously been CEO of Global Life. He succeeds Mike Kerner, who announced his decision to step down from the role.
  • Marc-Oliver Tschabold has been appointed Product Manager for both the CSA Real Estate Germany and the Property Club Europe at Credit Suisse in Germany. He succeeds Francisca Fariña Fischer who will focus on funds management within Credit Suisse in Germany.
  • Samuel Berner has been appointed Group Head of Human Resources at Bank J. Safra Sarasin, prior to that he was Head of Human Resources Global Operations at Credit Suisse. 
  • Deutsche Bank has made changes to its senior management positions since a published Bafin report regarding interest rates and the announcement of the new CEO:
    • John Cryan has been announced as the new CEO.
    • Christof von Dryander and Simon Dodds will co-lead the General Counsel role after Richard Walker stepped down from the position.
    • Christian Sewing has been announced as the new Head of Private and Business Clients.
  • David Steyn has been announced as the new CEO, succeeding Roderick Munsters, of Dutch asset manager Robeco NV.
  • Lucien J. Berlinger has been announced new regional CEO Austria of Zurich Kantonalbank. The business strengthened the branch with several private bankers such as Silvia Richter, Head of Vienna, in order to foster growth in Austria.
  • Elena Rasa has been promoted to Group Chief Data Officer at Generali.
  • Stefan Vogt has been hired by Credit Suisse as its new Head of IT Risk. He had previously worked for SIX Group as Chief Security Officer. 

Middle East and Africa

  • Ade Adeyemi has been appointed CEO at Eco Bank succeeding Albert Essienwho has decided to retire. Ade Adeyemi had previously worked at Citigroup as Chief Executive Officer of their sub-Saharan African division, based in Johannesburg.
  • Florian von Hartig has been appointed new Head of DCM by Investec, he will report directly into Chris Meyer, the Head of Corporate and Institution Banking.  Florian von Hartig had previously been Global Head of Debt Capital Markets based in London. 
  • Konrad Engber has been announced as Head of Ivory Coast, to help Commerzbank’s expansion in Africa, after its successful presence in Ethiopia and Libya.
  • Sunil Kaushal has been appointed Regional CEO, Africa and Middle East for Standard Chartered. Hehad previously been the Regional CEO of India and South Asia for the bank. This appointment comes after Diana Layfield, former CEO for Africa, announced her departure for personal reasons.
  • Christos Papadoplus, additionally, has announced he would leave the bank, he was the CEO covering Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan.
  • Herman Singh has been appointed to the board of MTN as Chief Digital Officer. He will report to the CEO and will be responsible for mobile money, payments, digital and joins from Vodacom, based Johannesburg.
  • Wessel Lemmer has been appointed Senior Agricultural Economist at ABSA in theAgriBusiness Centre of Excellence.
  • LangaSimela has also been appointed as Business Development Manager in the same business centre at ABSA.
  • Bello Maccido has been named new Chairman FNB Merchant Bank Ltd.
  • Adesola Adeduntan, current Executive Director and CFO, has been announced Managing Director-designate of First Bank of Nigeria Ltd.
  • GbengaShobo, the current Executive Director covering Lagos and Western regions, First Bank of Nigeria Ltd, has been appointed Deputy Managing Director-designate.
  • JadDamaj has been appointed by UBS to lead its investment business in Dubai. He will be reporting into Alberto Palomi, the Head of Investment Banking covering the Middle East and North Africa. Damaj previously worked at Citi Group.
  • Albert Trinkl has been appointed by Deutsche Bank as Head of Institutional Asset Management MENA, reporting into Barbara Rumpf Bee who is the Head of Global Client Group EMEA. Albert Trinkl previously worked for Lingohr & Partner Asset Management.
  • Javeed Ameen has been appointed Chief Operating Officer covering the MEA region at Deutsche Bank. Ameed succeeds Philippe Vollot and will work closely with Ashrok Aram, the CEO of MEA. Javeed Ameen previously worked as COO covering Saudi Arabia also at Deutsche Bank.
  • Vinay Mendonca has been announced as the new Global Head of Business Management covering trade and receivables finance (GTRF) at HSBC. He succeeds KwabenaAyirebi who has been promoted to Regional Head of GTRF covering the Middle East and North Africa.
  • Oluwatomi Ayodele Somefun has been appointed Head of Regional Operations covering Lagos and the South West at Unity Bank in Nigeria. She had previously worked for UBA Group where she led two subsidiaries as an MD and CEO.
