Last week, Leathwaite joined Oppnet as a Table Sponsor at its 11th annual Night of Opportunity Gala in New York. The evening saw the OppNet community come together to honor and celebrate the incredible graduates and leaders who pave the way for a successful future for all students from historically underrepresented communities. The gala, co-chaired by Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig, and Alba and Thomas Tull, raised over $2.1 MM to further OppNet’s programs that support young people achieving their college and career goals.

The event honored Michelle Ebanks, President, Essence Communications Inc., Van Jones, Host of “The Van Jones Show,” and Gabrielle Union, Actress and Author. Each honoree shared their incredible stories with the audience, who were thrilled to bear witness to their accomplishments and achievements.

The evening also marked 15 years of The Opportunity Network’s dynamic work with students across New York City as they create vibrant futures through education and career success. Founder and CEO of The Opportunity Network, Jessica Pliska, opened the evening reminding everyone in the room of the importance of building an OppNet community “where all can belong, and each and every student feels respected and celebrated so they can chart their own path through college and career to a future that is overflowing with possibility.”

For Leathwaite, the Gala was a chance to support OppNet by inviting some key clients along, having worked with the organization in a volunteer capacity since 2014, offering students professional advice, interview training and resume feedback.

We have tremendous respect for Jessica and the OppNet team.  We are constantly discussing the importance of diversity with our clients, yet our ongoing challenge is the dearth of diverse talent at executive levels. OppNet’s obvious success – 100% of their students graduate college –  means they are having a direct impact on addressing this issue at a grass roots level” said Leathwaite Partner, David Carden.

HR and talent leaders joined us from Apollo, Bank of America, Blackstone, Citigroup, Standard Chartered and KKR.

All of our guests remarked on what a great event it was, and were in awe of the students and honorees. For us, it was a great opportunity to lend financial support, and showcase the great work OppNet do with our community of clients”.

900 + guests attended this year’s Gala at Cipriani Wall Street to celebrate OppNet’s continuous impact, the outstanding contributions of OppNet students and the bold leadership of each honoree. “Night of Opportunity” honoree Van Jones acknowledged the impact OppNet has in driving access and opportunity for all students, despite the structural and systematic challenges many of them face “I’m so proud to be associated with The Opportunity Network because they are ‘ladder-builders’ on a broken ladder”.

This year’s Night of Opportunity served as a powerful example of the value of working with and investing in OppNet’s growing community of students, friends and partners.

Leathwaite looks forward to continuing to support OppNet in 2018 and beyond.

Leathwaite launches The Pay Index

Leathwaite has launched The Pay Index – a free to use crowd-sourced compensation tool just for senior executives.

With pay equity legislation being implemented across North America, such as New York’s Intro 1253-A and California’s AB-168, the need for crowd-sourced databases, such as The Pay Index, are essential in helping individuals and companies understand executive compensation.

It takes less than 5 minutes to anonymously share a number of data points and then compare your compensation against the local and global market through several unique interactive reports.

The Pay Index also includes a cost of living comparison tool so you can easily see what you need to earn in another city for the same standard of living.

Visit The Pay Index now to ensure you know your current market worth.
