Wall Street Journal Leadership Report

Case Study:

Leathwaite was brought in to secure a Managing Director-level candidate for a global banking group. They sought a talented individual who could develop and enhance the firm’s lobbying, government and regulatory affairs capabilities.

Based in London, this individual would be responsible for building a strong internal network across the bank’s businesses and control functions, whilst also helping to develop the appropriate regulatory responses for the external market. Particular emphasis was placed on the relationship with the bank’s government and regulatory affairs specialists in London, Brussels and Washington.

It was critical that the successful candidate was able to demonstrate an ability to build and maintain global, internal and external relationships in a complex environment with an internationally diverse culture.

Working in partnership with the client, we devised a list of global target organisations, focused on major financial services firms, large corporates, regulatory consultancies and the public sector. We harnessed our global network to craft a shortlist of candidates located in cities across the UK and Europe.

After a rigorous interview and benchmark process, the successful candidate came from a competitor bank with strong knowledge of government and regulatory affairs in the EU and UK. They stood out due to their excellent influencing, advisory and lobbying skills.
